Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (DASTA) has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with EC3 Global, the owner of the international EarthCheck Certification program, to assist Thailand to deliver its Low Carbon Tourism initiative.

The signing of the MoC signals Thailand's strong commitment to sustainable tourism and to protecting the beauty of its communities for current and future generations to enjoy.

DASTA has a mandate to promote and support sustainable tourism development in Thailand through disseminating best practices and providing support services to assist with the achievement of sustainable development outcomes across its destinations.

At the signing of the MoC, DASTA Director-General, Nalikatibhag Sangsnit, said he is looking forward to the positive benefits the partnership will bring to Thailand communities and tourism operators.

"DASTA recognises the opportunity to work with local authorities, local communities and commercial operators to realise their full tourism potential.

"The Low Carbon Tourism initiative will focus on the measurement of CO2 reduction and assist tourism enterprises and the communities in which they operate to deliver better environmental, social and economic outcomes," said Mr Sangsnit.

Stewart Moore, EC3 Global and EarthCheck CEO, said the partnership between DASTA and EC3 Global would enable each party to jointly promote and deliver a comprehensive set of tourism development, planning and design services and solutions to tourism operators, communities and destinations across Thailand.

"The international EarthCheck benchmarking and certification program will be translated into Thai and will be used to assist in underpinning the delivery of Low Carbon Tourism in Thailand.

"The delivery of the project will also be supported by a wide variety of training and resource materials provided with assistance from agencies such as International Labour Organisation (ILO), the EarthCheck Research Institute and PATA," said Mr Moore.
